Behind the Photos: Freddy Mercury

This picture of Freddy Mercury was taken at Live Aid in Wembley Stadium in England in June 1985. Queen were by far the best that day, sharing the stage with David Bowie, The Who, U2 and others.

I had flown to England because I had spent every summer there during the early 80s and felt it would be better than the U.S. version of Live Aid that same day.

My request for a photo pass was denied although, and I had to sneak my camera equipment into the concert. I was rather experienced at this because that's how I got started in this business.

It was pretty easy that day, mainly because it was a big event with a lot of people. But I did have to fight with the crowd with a very large lens during that 20 hour day.

Behind the Photos: Axl Rose

This picture of Axl Rose was taken at Perkins Palace in Pasadena , Ca in late December 1987.

Guns and Roses played there a few nights and had Fred Coury of Cinderella fame filling in for an injured Steven Adler. LA Guns opened the shows, which made these concerts more of an historic event.

I photographed Guns n Roses many times early in their career and this is one of my favorite Axl shots.
